Course Brief

Foundational Principles and Practices in Project Management is an introductory course to the world of project management. The course examines the fundamentals of project management for anyone new to the profession or those considering it as a career choice. Learners will be introduced to the key concepts, principles and methods for managing projects effectively. The project life cycle and the project management processes will be discussed and project management techniques applied to virtual classroom activities. At the end of this introductory course, learners will achieve the necessary knowledge and skills to manage a small project within an organizational context.


  • 20 Contact Hours

On completion of this course, learners will be able to:

  1. Explain the project selection process:

a) Determine whether the task is a project, a program or operational task;

b) Discuss the relationship between the project objectives and the business strategy;

c) Describe the necessary skills and competencies of a project manager

    2.  Initiate the project:

a)  Evaluate the organizations environment and culture on the project deliverable

b)  Identify key stakeholders; develop the project charter and obtain approval for the project

    3.  Plan the project:

a) Obtain stakeholders requirements, prepare a project scope statement and work breakdown structure.

b) Define project activities and identify the project’s critical path.

c) Determine quality requirements for the project.

d) Evaluate project risks and select appropriate risk response strategies.

e) Estimate project cost and prepare a budget for the project.

f) Select the most appropriate organization to implement the project and prepare a communication plan.

g) Select the most appropriate contract type for outsourced activities.

   4. Monitor, Control and Execute the project:

a) Identify techniques for effective project monitoring and control

b) Discuss the main focus of the project manager during the execution phase of the project.

   5. Close off the project:

a) Identify key activities to effectively close off the project.

PAYMENT COMPLETION
Once you have created an account, please select the Payment Link which would have been forwarded by the Academic Department.

You will be taken to the course page. Click on the “Send payment via PayPal” button

If you have an existing PayPal account, you can sign in and proceed with payment.

If you do not have a PayPal account, choose the “Create a PayPal account” option and proceed.
NB: Please double check that the accurate course has been selected.

If you do not have a PayPal account, or a credit card, you can visit the Advisory and Admissions department at any of our four campuses (Champs Fleurs, Port of Spain, San Fernando, Trincity) to register.

Our office hours are as follows (excluding public holidays):

Monday – Thursday: 8:00am – 6:00pm

Friday: 8:00am – 4:00pm

Saturday: 8:00am – 3:00pm

Once payment is completed via PayPal, you will gain immediate access to the course. However, if payment is made otherwise, you will be enrolled onto the e-learning platform by an administrator, and the relevant information will be sent via email within 3-5 days.

Note that once registered and enrolled, participants would have full access to the course, and ALL course material. Therefore, a NO REFUND policy will be implemented.

At the end of this introductory course learners will achieve the necessary knowledge and skills to manage a small project within an organizational context.

     

     

    Target Audience

    Practitioners in the field of project management who wish to receive formal training in project management, newcomers to the field of project management who are interested in obtaining an understanding of this profession.
