Course Brief

This unit aims to develop learners' skills and understanding to successfully create and manage web-based applications. The web is an integral component for communication in art and design disciplines and applications. Through online galleries, practitioners' websites, agencies, graphic and new media creatives, to aspects of social networking and communication, media and entertainment the web is central to how we communicate today. This unit allows learners to work in a web-based context, by posting a website on the internet or an intranet. In this unit learners should conduct research into the content and structure of websites. Understanding gained should be applied to learners developing their designs for web pages. Learners may develop a website that includes interactive elements. Learners should understand the technical requirements for server interaction and be able to manage the setting up of third party files and database access. Learners may also be expected to be involved in managing associated servers. In addition to addressing technical aspects, learners should be guided in ensuring that the web pages they produce are functional and interfaces are user friendly.

On successful completion of this unit a learner will:

  2. Be able to produce interactive web pages
  3. Be able to build a website
  4. Be able to develop interactive applications on a web server.
