Mere months into its inaugural offering, SBCS’ homegrown Pearson and ACTT approved Matriculation to Higher National Diploma (HND) in Media & Graphic Design programme has already begun to bear fruit.

Currently in his freshman year, Josiah Persad was a two-time winner at the recently held Trinidad and Tobago Film Festival Awards ceremony. The first-time filmmaker and SBCS student copped the Best Feature Film – Short, and People’s Choice awards.  Said Josiah of his experience on the Matriculation programme, to date, “… During my short time at SBCS so far, in the Matriculation to HND Programme (Graphic Design & Media), I have developed my skills in media production and I’ve broadened my perspectives on each medium. This programme has been very beneficial to me and my future career as a filmmaker as I’m gaining hands-on experience and knowledge in media. I would recommend this course to any person if they are looking for high end education in this field.”

SBCS’ Executive Director, Dr. Robin Maraj praised the achievement of the 17-year old, and commended the Administration Team for their efforts in designing the programme.

“The recent accomplishment by Mr. Persad once more proves  that we are capable of delivering excellence in each of our chosen areas. Congratulations to him, his lecturers and the entire staff of SBCS TR, as well as the key persons from SBCS POS who played a role in the design and launch of this programme.”

The Matriculation (Media & Graphic Design) programme is one of a suite of locally developed SBCS qualifications that offer graduates direct entry into our Pearson BTEC Higher National Diploma programmes.  These qualifications in turn, offer candidates, upon successful completion, advanced entry into the final year of a UK (Hons) undergraduate degree. Currently SBCS offers Matriculation programmes in:

  • Engineering
  • Media & Graphic Design
  • Computing
  • Applied Business Studies

Congratulations once again to Josiah, and we wish him further success along his budding filmmaking career.
