At the Certificate level students will be provided an introduction of the key principles and objectives that underpin the professional purchasing task. Students will be introduced to a framework that can be used in order to identify potential sources of supply, appraise and select the best suppliers from these sources and then monitor and encourage improvement in these suppliers. They will develop an understanding of the process of negotiation, and the strategies and tactics required for an effective negotiation complemented by specific aspects of behaviour and the methods used by organisations to obtain the right quantities of stock or inventory. Lastly students will understand the immediate business environment which affects the organisation and the individual in business activities.

INTERNATIONAL CERTIFICATE LEVEL

REQUIREMENTS:

18 years or older and four (4) O’ Level passes inclusive of English

CIPS provides a programme of continuous improvement in professional standards and raises awareness of the contribution that purchasing and supply makes to corporate, national and international prosperity. On completion of this programme you can pursue a profession in the field of purchasing, procurement or supply chain management.

Registration Information

New Students

Will be required to bring originals as well as copies of their CXC/GCE/CAPE certificates.

Continuing Students

Must show proof of attempting the previous papers that were funded by GATE. They must also show proof of having registered with the Professional Body (CIPS).

Duration Of Programme

It is structured as a Certificate, Advanced Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Professional Diploma. Please note students who have successfully completed the Certificate & Advanced Certificate would gain direct entry to the Advanced Diploma Level. The programme can be completed in three to four years.

Registration Deadline

SBCS' Registration Deadline is usually two weeks before the start of the upcoming semester. Students will also be required to register with the respective foreign bodies.  Course Administration will advise as to all deadline dates for foreign fee payments.

Government Assistance for Tuition Expenses (GATE)

 

This programme is GATE approved. Nationals of Trinidad and Tobago can apply for Government Assistance through the GATE Programme. Government subsidizes the full cost of tuition fees. Students wanting to subscribe for funding must fulfill the entry requirements of the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Skills and Training (MTEST)

Each level within the CIPS qualifications (Certificate, Advanced Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Professional Diploma)  is recognised by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Skills and Training (MTEST) as five (5) separate programmes. Each programme is approved for GATE funding for a maximum of one (1) year.

Repeat Policy

Students are not entitled to any additional GATE funding to repeat papers within CIPS programmes. Exemptions would be considered on an individual basis by the Ministry of Tertiary Education, Skills and Training (MTEST).

 

Rules of Progression

Certificate to Advanced Certificate Level:

Students must have passed all five subjects of the Certificate Level, to attempt examinations at the Advanced Certificate Level.

 

Please note students who have successfully completed the Certificate & Advanced Certificate would gain direct entry to the Advanced Diploma Level.
