A Master's Course in Digital Photography is designed for persons with basic camera ability who wishes to enhance their skills. The course introduces participants to the fundamental components of photography, then challenges, reinforces, and deepens technical understanding. Exciting practical exercises coupled with engaging theory allows participants to learn and develop their ability to take better pictures.

Must own a digital camera with memory card.

Session One – Introduction: The camera and photography foundation

  • Welcome and introduction
  • Workshop overview, aims and objectives
  • Individual introductions with statement of purpose
  • Open discussion on light
  • Breakdown the camera and it's ability
  • List the key mechanisms that facilitate the capturing of light
  • Examples of photography and discussion on it's various roles
  • Exploring shutter manipulation
  • Practical exercise in shutter priority
  • Close with assignment

 

Session Two – Focus on aperture

  • Feedback on shutter manipulation
  • Review of first class exercise images
  • Exercise with aperture priority
  • Handling different shooting conditions
  • Critique assignment
  • Recap with handout support
  • Give assignment

 

Session Three – Studio photography

  • Feedback
  • Introduction to artificial lighting
  • Assignment critique
  • Studio setup
  • Single subject portraiture techniques
  • Strobe light manipulation
  • Multiple subject portraiture
  • Assignment

 

Session Four – Desktop Studio

  • Feedback
  • Assignment critique
  • Introduction to desktop photography
  • Desktop/Macro photography exercise
  • Light setup with softbox
  • Single and multiple subject arrangement

Session Five – Field trip

  • Meet at determined venue
  • Exercise a number of techniques learned during class

Session Six – Review and Light Painting

  • Critique of assignments and field trip images

Session Seven – Contracts and Commercial photography

  • Introduction to Image release forms and contracts
  • Introduction to commercial/fashion photography (posing model)

Session Eight – Introduction to photo-manipulation

  • Basic Photoshop tools
  • Watermarking and protecting images online.

 

Session Nine – Introduction to photo-manipulation

  • Further Photoshop basics
  • Portfolio assembly and social networking

Registration Information

* Please note that all information is subject to change. It is advisable to confirm all information before registration.
* Registration for all Short Media courses can be done at the Champs Fleurs, Port-of-Spain, Trincity or San Fernando Campus.
* Payment of fees can be made by linx, credit card or cheque.
* An administration fee of $100.00 is payable on all registrations.
* A late fee of $20 will apply on registrations within 1 week of commencement of class.
* A Certificate of participation is awarded to each participant upon satisfying 80% attendance of classes and/or any exam or course-work assigned by lecturer.
