Internships and Apprenticeships

Overview

The Student Services unit, through affiliations with a number of local organisations in industry, grants opportunities to our undergraduate students to pursue internship/apprenticeship experiences. The Internship / Apprenticeship Programme is designed to help SBCS students gain valuable experience with companies, aligned to our qualification offerings. The students would be able to apply the knowledge they have learned in the classroom and from readings, to an operating business.

What do the internships/apprenticeships offer?

An internship/apprenticeship is a period of structured work experience that will often relate to your professional and career goals. Although each experience is unique, at its base, it should allow you to develop knowledge and skills related to your chosen (or desired) field of work.

Here’s what you can generally expect:

  • You will be assigned to a defined project, or a specific area of work that creates real value for the host organisation, leading to a valuable learning experience;

  • You will be encouraged to journal and reflect upon your experience;

  • You will interact with an assigned supervisor or mentor within the host organisation.

How do I get an internship/apprenticeship?

There are two ways for SBCS students to get involved in internships/apprenticeships:

  • Throughout the year, local companies advertise their internships through our Student Services unit. Remember to regularly log in to SBCS Moodle (vacancies) to keep abreast of available opportunities.
  • Contact internships@sbcs.edu.tt to register your interest and receive further details on applying for our Internship / Apprenticeship Programme.
