This City & Guilds diploma provides more practice involving a broader range of skills appropriate to a person who may also supervise, or who is going on into higher education.

The advanced diploma takes these skills to the level appropriate for a person preparing for or working in first-level management. It is also appropriate for someone who wants to receive specialised training at a high level.

At Certificate level a broad introduction is provided to the theory and practical aspects of telecommunication systems for a front-line worker or a person beginning an academic training programme.

The Diploma level is suitable for someone who has already learned the basic skills and who now wants to learn a broader range of skills. It is appropriate for someone who may have to supervise others, or who is preparing for higher education (eg. At university)

The advanced diploma takes these skills to the level appropriate to a person preparing for, or working in, first-level management. It is also appropriate for someone who wishes to receive specialised training at a high level. Graduates of the advanced diploma should have a sound knowledge of the technical design principles in one or more specialised branches of telecommunications. They will have the potential to fulfil the role of senior/chief technician with a high level of responsibility requiring the use of personal initiative and critical judgement.

This course attempts to present electric motor controls in a non-technical manner. It is 75% practical and it allows students to understand the workings of contactors, relays, thermal overload protection and manual and magnetic starters.

Building Services Engineering is the engineering of the internal environment and environmental impact of a building. It essentially brings buildings and structures to life.

Building services engineers are responsible for the design, installation, operation and monitoring of the mechanical, electrical and public health systems required for the safe, comfortable and environmentally friendly operation of modern buildings. This includes:
•    Water, heating, ventilation, air conditioning, access, transport and electricity;
•    Safety and security systems such as fire prevention and detection, escape routes, CCTV and alarms. 

Building services engineers also face the challenge of ensuring that buildings are energy efficient to reduce overuse of energy sources and by doing so helping the society reduce the depletion of natural resources and minimize environmental pollution.

HND graduates in Building Services Engineering can progress to the extended final year of our BSc (Hons) Occupational Safety, Health and Environment OR the BEng/BSc (Hons) Building Services Engineering (subject to validation/recognition).
