2019 Vacation Camps

Become a Dynamo!

SBCS’ camps will provide a welcome break to school vacationers this summer.  Our wide mix of technical and practical sessions are designed to Encourage Learning, Establish CamaraderieDevelop Life Skills, and Create Dynamos (Self-starters, Doers, Workers …).

 

San Fernando campus

Sessions include: Career Guidance, Basic Chinese, Learning Strategies, Managing Money and Understanding the Economy, Safety and First Aid, Cyber Safety and Digital Etiquette, Digital Audio, Basic Sign Language, Programming Concepts, Digital Photography, Graphic Design, Basic Electronics, Public Speaking and Presentations, Photo Editing, Goal Setting and Time Management, Nutrition Diet and Healthy Eating Habits, Renewable Energy, Website Design, Animation, Film Studies, Understanding Art 

 

Trincity campus

Sessions include: Programming Concepts, Website Development, Graphic Design, Android Application Development, Introduction to Electronics, Introduction to Entrepreneurship, Introduction to Robotics.

 

Please note:

  • The price for each camp is $1,200
  • Children of SBCS Alumni, current students and past campers earn a 5% discount
  • A registration fee of $100 applies to all camps after discount
  • Sessions start at 9:00 A.M. and end at 2:30 P.M.

The short vacation courses are designed to allow you to taste-test a possible career, pursue a hobby, or simply strenghten your ability in a specific area.

Register for more than one course and get 5% off all but the first.  Certificates are issued at the end of each course.

 

AutoCAD 2019

Location: Champs Fleurs
Date:8 – 12 July, 2019
Class Time:9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Cost:$1,950 plus $150 registration fee

 

This course provides hands-on exercises on creating, editing and printing drawings.  Become proficient in AutoCAD and prepare yourself for CSEC’s Technical Drawing, or for a career in designing plans for construction, architecture or manufacturing.  Learning outcomes include:

  • Manipulate Objects Using Draw and Modify Commands
  • Implement Drawing Organization and Inquiry Commands
  • Annotate a Drawing
  • Dimension Drawings
  • Create Blocks /Hatching Objects
  • Plot the Drawing Output, Template Creation/Use Attributes
  • Copy Existing Drawings from Other Sources
  • Use Dynamic Blocks
  • Customize Toolbars, Menus, Line types, and Hatch Patterns
  • Creating, Solids, Meshes & Surfaces

 

CompTIA’s IT Fundamentals  (ITF+)

Location: Champs Fleurs
Date:15 – 19 July, 2019
Class Time:9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Cost:$1,950 plus $150 registration fee

 

This is the first step in a career in information technology (IT).  Learn the basics of computing, IT infrastructure, application and software, software development, database fundamentals and security.  No prior knowledge is required.  Note that CompTIA is a leading awarding organisation that issues professional certifications in the IT industry. This ITF+ course prepares you to sit the CompTIA exam and become certified!  Learning outcomes include:

  • Install software
  • Establish basic network connectivity
  • Identify/prevent basic security risks
  • Explain troubleshooting theory and preventative maintenance of devices

 

Digital Photography

Location: Trincity
Date:22 – 26 July, 2019
Class Time:9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Cost:$1,750 plus $150 registration fee

 

This course introduces participants to the fundamental components of photography, then challenges, reinforces, and deepens technical understanding. Exciting practical exercises coupled with engaging theory allows participants to learn and develop their ability to take better pictures. Learning outcomes include:

  • Identify essential mechanisms for capturing an image (describe the exposure process).
  • Manipulate aperture setting and shutter speed.
  • Predict with general accuracy the outcome of a photograph based on available light
    and camera settings.
  • Develop critiquing skills and sensibilities about design elements in photographs.
  • Apply basic design principles to photographic work.
  • Set-up and use different lighting equipment.
  • Describe the difference between continuous and strobe photography light.
  • Control studio lighting to produce different photography results.
  • Perform basic digital manipulation on photographs.

 

Computer Game Design

Location: Trincity
Date:5 – 9 August, 2019
Class Time:9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Cost:$1,750 plus $150 registration fee

 

Learn how to create amazing 2D video games using Unity, the world-leading, free-to-use game development tool. We start from the very beginning so you need no prior experience of Unity or coding!

This project based course will have you building games from day one and slowly develop your skills to build more complex games.  You will learn:

  • The Unity game engine
  • C# – a powerful modern programming language
  • Game design
  • How physics works in games
  • How to deploy your games to your device

 

Robotics and Mechatronics

Location: Trincity
Date:12 – 16 August, 2019
Class Time:9:00 A.M. to 3:00 P.M.
Cost:$1,750 plus $150 registration fee

 

Acquire the theoretical knowledge and hands on skills required to understand the emerging robotics and mechatronics technology field and its applications.
This course aims to improve understanding of robotics and mechatronics, intelligent systems and their design as well as become familiar with the software used in developing and interfacing with related systems and products. Project-based learning and hands-on activities by way of Arduino robotic kits and prebuilt Arduino and PLC based control systems will form the backbone for development of practical skills as learners will be involved in several robotics and mechatronic projects.
