SBCS Global Learning Institute honoured near 300 graduates at our 2019 graduation ceremony at the Trinidad Hyatt Regency Hotel on Saturday, November 06.
During his address at Hyatt’s Regency Ballroom, Executive Director, Dr. Robin Maraj commended graduates for their determination and grit in conquering challenges to attain their respective qualifications.
He charged all graduates to be catalysts for the change they desire in the world of tomorrow; to learn from their experiences during their study and stay at SBCS, and be that spark of inspiration for the next generation.
While he encouraged them to celebrate their achievement, he also cautioned that obstacles still lay ahead to be overcome.
“It is at these very times that it is most important not to falter, but to hold on to your convictions and push forward … So no matter the crises nor the challenges, a new dawn always brings with it new possibilities. So when faced with dark days remember the words of the great Ulysses S Grant (Battle of Shiloh): Lick them tomorrow though.”
Graduates pursued both undergraduate and post-graduate studies in diverse fields as Business Management, Computing, Electrical and Electronic Engineering Technology, Engineering Construction Management, Graphic Design, Health and Safety, Human Resource Management, Information Systems, and Media and Communications. SBCS offers these programmes in collaboration with renowned and globally recognised UK based institutions of higher learning including the Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University, the Universities of Greenwich, Sunderland, and London (Goldsmiths and Royal Holloway).
The graduates were congratulated by distinguished representatives from each of the abovementioned universities, who extended notes of congratulations and enthusiasm of them now joining the elite ranks of the alumni of renowned institutions of higher learning. The graduates themselves were ably represented by the chosen valedictorians of their graduating class; each one delivering stirring, reflective and exhorting messages around the theme on the night, “A Celebration of Triumph and Excellence”:
“Excellence is a gift of inspiration, encompassing the virtue of patience, right-thinking, self-motivation, prudence and action. This is ingrained in every Graduand here today that is filled with unlimited potential. Therefore, excellence doesn’t end here. It is up to each and every one of us to be that torch of excellence from this day forward.” – Jiselle Charles, University of Greenwich
“Always use hindsight, so that you can learn and improve. Always use insight, so that you can understand and act. Always use foresight, so you can guide and motivate.” – Dante Alexis, University of Greenwich
“Let us do more than our share for the generation coming after us! Class of 2019, as our time as students have come to an end, let us all seize the opportunity, go forth, do great things because the world is waiting on us!” – Salina Samaroo-Brathwaite, Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University
“If you want to go fast, go alone. If you want to go far, go with others … the people who are crazy enough to think they can change the world, are the ones that usually do! (Steve Jobs)
Keep striving for excellence!” – Shelley-Ann Rattansingh, University of Sunderland
“We all have issues that we’re fighting not to be defined by. Your story started unique. Love your good and bad because you need both to be triumphant and achieve excellence.” – Liam Mc Ivor, University of London
We celebrate the triumph and excellence of our 2019 graduating class; well done!
