RECAP: SBCS’ 2018 Employment and Career Fair

Published: 5:26 PM on August 15, 2018

The 4th annual SBCS Employment and Career Fair was held on Friday, August 10, 2018. Hosted by our Student Services department at the Champs Fleurs campus, and set within the theme, “The SBCS Advantage: Get the Edge“, the Fair was another demonstration of our continued efforts to provide our learners and alumni with meaningful experiences that will enhance their career readiness. Twenty-two employers participated, sharing information about employment and career prospects, and over 200 students from across SBCS’ undergraduate, postgraduate, professional and certificate programmes attended, making valuable connections and learning about immediate and future job openings.

It took the participation and coordination of the entire SBCS community to provide this opportunity; a special thanks to all employers, students, and visitors who attended the Fair to make it the success that it was! Executive Director, Dr Robin Maraj summed it up best, “Superb organization and teamwork followed by passionate execution.”

Truly, we appreciate each of the employers, exhibitors and vendors for taking time out of their busy schedules to share career information (and goodies!) with our students and alumni:

Of note also was the participation of our featured speaker, Ms Teneille Tobias (HR Business Partner, Cable & Wireless Communications) who delivered a stirring and insightful key address, “Getting the Professional Edge”. In it, she gave advice on how job seekers can differentiate themselves in their job hunt, to become the chosen candidate for their desired occupation.

Kudos as well to our image management professionals who lent their time and expertise to counsel the attendees on the DOs and DON’Ts of professional and personal etiquette: Modern Connoisseur Limited; Make-up by Reshma Maharaj; and Elegant Yaak.
