SBCS – A great place to learn! – hosted an induction week for our very own lecturers, who are pursuing the University of Greenwich’s Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education. This pilot cohort will see twenty lecturers pursue this qualification over the period September 2014 – June 2015.

The induction week was held from Tuesday, September 2, to Friday, September 5, 2014, and was facilitated by Dr. Sally Alsford and Mr. Paul Dennison, of the University of Greenwich’s Educational Development Unit.  Each session was highly interactive and included activities and group brainstorming to enhance the theory that was delivered.

An initiative of SBCS’ Executive Director, the Post Graduate Certificate in Higher Education is being offered to SBCS’ lecturers primarily via Moodle. The lecturers will learn:

•    To deliver successful learning in the classroom and how to assess learning and ensure that student achievement receives fair recognition.
•    How to design effective courses and programmes, and, where appropriate, to employ e-learning in various forms.
•    How to evaluate the effectiveness of teaching and learning and the processes of quality assurance that underpin that evaluation.
•    How to compile your own personal e-portfolio and to value Continuing Professional Development beyond the Postgraduate Certificate in HE.

We look forward to celebrating with our lecturers on their completion, as well as the enhanced effectiveness that will be brought to the classroom
