Student Services, with much help from the SBCS Student Council, hosted “Welcome Week 2012” during the third week of September at our Champs Fleur campus. The events of the week were geared towards our new and returning full-time students, with the aim of facilitating interaction outside of the classroom and expediting the launch of student clubs and activities.
The week began with” Icebreakers” during which the race was on for students to discover the hidden talents and interesting idiosyncrasies of their peers. Students mingled intently with their peers as prizes were at stake for accurate and speedy information retrieval. The “getting to know you” activities were followed up by SBCS Club Sign Up’s where students indicated their interest in activities such as football, cricket, nature trail and environmental clubs just to name a few.
Mid-week students were engaged in games and a quiz where they learned more about SBCS and strategies for success in the midst of some friendly competition. Then on Student Appreciation Day – Thursday, September 20th, all students (full-time and part-time) had the opportunity to become a target of a “random act of gratitude”. Hearts were placed under chairs in classrooms and the cafeteria – if you found a heart, it was redeemed for a prize at Student Services.
To end the week, our bold and spirited students came forward to participate in our Talent and Karaoke Show that was held at the Trincity Campus on Friday, September 21st. Let’s just say, we sang, we laughed, we cheered and we laughed some more.
Thanks to all our students and staff who participated and assisted with Welcome Week 2012. Our efforts resulted in successful and fun events that we look forward to improving on and expanding in 2013.
SBCS San Fernando will be hosting its “Welcome Week” on Friday, September 28, 2012, so stay tuned for further information. In 2013 we plan to have a number of inter campus activities !!!
