Experience NEXUS | SBCS’ Design and Visual Communication Conference

Published: 9:20 AM on July 11, 2018

NEXUS (New Experiences in Usability and Service) is SBCS’ first Visual Communication and Design conference hosted by the Centre for Media, Communication, and Design (SBCS, Trincity Campus).

Taking place on Saturday, July 14, 2018, the conference seeks to be a platform for local conversations on the ways in which visual communication and design can be used to advance public good. This event also seeks to advance the discussion on the changing role of the creative practitioner in developing contexts, and their relevance in relation to the wider global society. The conference affords the opportunity to share informed perspectives on developments in the creative industries, design-based research, and strategies for inclusive, socially responsible creative practices.

For this year’s edition, presenters will share informed perspectives and/or scholarly research on the theme of Design in Developing a Context through a series of presentations, with submissions taking into consideration the conference theme while addressing the sub-themes of:

  • Design for social good
  • Developmental work and Design research
  • Visual systems thinking
  • Problem-solving through Design

The keynote address will be delivered by Gurpreet Singh – Principal Lecturer International, University of Sunderland (UK); a key member of an academic partnership that has blossomed through our transnational offering of the University’s BA (Hons) Graphic Design programme.
