Financial Services Regulation

On completion, the candidate should:

  • know the primary function of the following bodies in the regulation of the financial services industry:
    • Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC)
    • Financial Conduct Authority (FCA)
    • European Union (EU)
    • International Organisation of Securities Commissions (IOSCO)
    • Securities and Commodities Authority (SCA)

Financial crime

On completion, the candidate should:

  • understand the role of the Financial Action Task Force
  • know the main offences associated with money laundering and the regulatory obligations of financial services firms
  • know the stages of money laundering
  • know the client identity procedures
  • know the offences that constitute insider dealing and the instruments covered
  • know the offences that constitute market abuse and the instruments covered

Corporate Governance

On completion, the candidate should:

  • know the origins and nature of Corporate Governance
  • know the Corporate Governance mechanisms available to stakeholders to exercise their rights
  • understand the areas of weakness and lessons learned from the global financial crises of 2007/9
