McGill University is one of Canada's best-known institutions of higher learning and one of the leading universities in the world. It is globally recognized for the excellence of its teaching and research programmes.

 

The McGill Faculty of Medicine and Health Sciences, founded in 1829, is Canada’s first medical faculty. McGill has been ranked number 1 nationally in the medical-doctoral category for 18 consecutive years by Maclean’s University Rankings. The Faculty is home to six renowned schools in the health professions and sciences, as well as close to 30 distinct research institutes and centres.

 

The McGill Research Centre for Cannabis is an inter-disciplinary research consortium that combines expertise in immunology, molecular pharmacology, respiratory medicine, genetics, oncology, supportive care and pain management for the biomedical component. It is supported by an integrated research plan in plants sciences, psychology, chemistry and education, as well as economics and law. It serves as a hub for integrated cannabis-related research activities spanning agriculture/plant sciences, chemistry, biomedical and socioeconomics. The Centre's mission is to provide education and training opportunities, knowledge mobilization events and evidence-based science to impact cannabis-related decisions/policies surrounding health, society and law.

 

Collectively, we have the experience and expertise to deliver a medical cannabis course that covers the topic in its entirety, from plants to people.

At the end of this course, a certificate of completion will be issued by McGill University.

 

Target audience: anyone with an interest in learning about the medicinal uses of cannabis, what is required to cultivate and process it, and potential commercial opportunities. (Basic knowledge of science required.)

 

Objectives and benefits of the course:

  • To understand a wide variety of topics on medical cannabis, based on the most current science and clinical research.
  • To identify potential health-related applications for medical cannabis.
  • To understand cannabis growth patterns and plant-related product quality.
  • To be informed in quality assurance/quality control practices.
  • To understand commercial opportunities for medical cannabis and cannabis-based products.

By the end of this course, participants will obtain a broad knowledge of medical cannabis appropriate for entry into this emerging medical and health sciences sector.

 

Format: This course will be taught via live online lectures, delivered by experts in their respective fields from McGill University.

 

Delivery, Online format:

  • each lecture comprising approximately 45 minutes, plus
  • an additional 45 minutes for discussions, Q&A and in-class assignments.
