Course Brief

This unit aims to equip students with the practical tools necessary to become entrepreneurs.


  • This course is offered in 45 contact hours.

Upon successful completion of this unit, learners will be able to:

  1. Define and identify the qualities of an entrepreneur.
  2. Learn and reproduce the basic requirements for starting an entrepreneurial business in Trinidad and Tobago.
  3. Understand the basic requirements of Intellectual Property Rights protection in Trinidad and Tobago.
  4. Develop and produce the basic elements of a business plan.
  5. Effectively measure business performance.

Define and identify the qualities of an entrepreneur. 

  • Qualities of an entrepreneur include a psyche for hard work, risk taking and action oriented, persistence and determination. Students will understand that becoming an entrepreneur requires a psychological attitude that risks can bring both reward and failure. Students will develop the ability to spot ideas and understand that ideas can generate revenue if converted to full action.

 

Learn and reproduce the basic requirements for starting an entrepreneurial business in Trinidad and Tobago. 

  • Students will learn about the documents, financial and tax requirements for starting a business in Trinidad and Tobago.

 

Understand the basic requirements of Intellectual Property Rights protection in Trinidad and Tobago.

  • Students will learn the importance of protecting their ideas and products.  They will be guided to the appropriate departments to understand the process of intellectual property rights protection.

 

Develop and produce the basic elements of a business plan.

  • Students will put together the basic elements of a business plan. This is important for funding purposes.  Cash flow forecasts, statement of income, balance sheets, calculation of profit margins will form key aspects in this area. They will be shown how to protect key aspects of the business plan.

 

Effectively measure business performance.  

  • All entrepreneurs must know how well their business is performing.  Students will be shown a variety of ways to determine how the business is performing.
