Course Brief

§The role of a consultant and the importance of ethics and confidentiality
§The role and purpose of internal consultants
§Internal consultants as ‘researching professionals’
§Essential skills of a consultant to survive in a competitive global arena
§Physical verses virtual business consulting support services
§Scoping a business consultancy project for adoption
§Managing people and decision makers in a physical and virtual environment
§Commercial and academic research skills
§Client data utilization and business failure
§Bespoke and generic design of results
§Synthesis and presentation project recommendations for implementation including costs


  • 60 Contact Hours

By the end of this module successful students will be able to do the following:

1. Appraise, evidence and apply the concepts and practices of management consulting within a range of sectors, organisations and job family roles
2. Critique and defend the processes required for a consultant to meet a range of potential research settings
3. Select and evaluate the tools and techniques required to source, critique and
implement a range of potential viable and realistic solutions
4. Debate and articulate the critical, methodical and creative problem-solving practices required to be an ethical and reflective internal or external consultant

The assessment will be coursework consisting of 3000 words (indicative word count). 15 min reflective viva. To include a variety of formats including (but not limited to) business plans, feasibility reports, content analysis and documentary evaluations, management research reports, netnographic approaches. Supported by online reflective viva. Tests all Learning Outcomes

    The BA (Hons) Business and Human Resource Management programme can be earned in 18 months on a Part Time basis. As a graduate of this programme, you will have excellent skills and knowledge in strategies for enhancing employee relations, change management, developing training models and human resource planning.

    The content of the course mirrors the Sunderland-based equivalent course Business and Management. This course builds on your existing knowledge and prepares you for managerial roles and professional roles in sales, finance, general business and the public sector. You will undertake four broad-based modules related to business consultancy projects, strategic leadership and collaboration, managing business continuity and resilience as well as leading and implementing organisational change.

    This programme is based at study centres, which makes it distinct from our programme with the same title that is based at the University of Sunderland. Courses delivered at study centres share the same ethos, material and approach as those delivered at Sunderland itself.

    This course is an outstanding way to gain the benefits of an education from our University without having to move to Sunderland.
