Course Brief

The module enables students to explore their leadership identity, strategic leadership development objectives and how to achieve those. It is focussed on emerging leadership theories and behaviours that are associated with strategic leadership and effective collaboration. Indicative content includes:

•Exploring leader identity and leadership from a strategic perspective
•Reviewing and critiquing traditional and emerging leadership concepts, theories and models
•Impact of political, economic, socio-cultural and environmental influences on leadership
•Leadership for strategic change
•Analysing and using information management frameworks to support strategic leadership
•Developing collaborative leadership through coaching to engage others and support achievement of strategic organisational objectives
•Systems leadership for multi-disciplinary stakeholder collaboration


  • 60 Contact Hours

By the end of this module successful students will be able to do the following:

1. Critically debate the importance of and approaches to strategic leadership in organisations
2. Identify and articulate how strategic leaders can achieve stakeholder collaboration to support organisational success
3. Analyse and evaluate their own leader identity in order to shape their CV and professional digital profile
4. Produce a comprehensive leadership development plan to enhance career prospects

The assessment will be one individual assignment of 3000 words. All learning outcomes will be assessed.

    In today’s fast-paced, global environment, marketing is crucial to the commercial success of any business.     The content of the course mirrors the Sunderland-based equivalent course Business and Management. This course builds on your existing knowledge and prepares you for managerial roles and professional roles in sales, finance, general business and the public sector. You will undertake four broad-based modules related to business consultancy projects, strategic leadership and collaboration, managing business continuity and resilience as well as leading and implementing organisational change.

    This programme is based at study centres, which makes it distinct from our programme with the same title that is based at the University of Sunderland. Courses delivered at study centres share the same ethos, material and approach as those delivered at Sunderland itself.

    This course is an outstanding way to gain the benefits of an education from our University without having to move to Sunderland.
