Course Brief

Maintaining Financial Records - FA2 module helps to develop knowledge and understanding of the underlying principles and concepts relating to maintaining financial records and technical proficiency in the use of double-entry accounting techniques including the preparation of basic
financial statements.
 
The syllabus for Paper FA2, Maintaining Financial Records, introduces the context and purpose of maintaining financial records with reference to accounts preparation. The syllabus then concentrates in depth on the double-entry system and on recording, processing, and reporting business transactions and events, including the specific accounting for non-current assets. The syllabus covers the use of the extended trial balance and how to identify and correct errors, including the reconciliation of the control accounts, and the posting of period end adjustments. The syllabus also covers the preparation of final accounts for sole
traders and for partnerships

    The Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) offers a range of entry-level awards, such as:

    • ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 2)
    • ACCA Diploma in Financial and Management Accounting (RQF Level 3)
    • ACCA Diploma in Accounting and Business (RQF Level 4)
     

    Overview of the
    Foundations in Accountancy (FIA) Programme

     

    These awards focus on the core skills of financial and management accounting, which provide students with flexible entry points with certification awarded at each level of the FIA programme, allowing students to tailor the awards, and making them an attractive and relevant choice for employers. 

    On successful completion of the Diploma in Accounting and Business exams, students can automatically be transferred onto the ACCA Qualification, free of charge, and will be exempted from the first three exams of the ACCA Qualification (BT - Business and Technology, MA - Management Accounting, and FA - Financial Accounting).

    The ACCA/FIA Study School sessions for the July 2024 semester students will commence on Monday, October 21, 2024, geared towards the December 2024 exam sitting.

    Study School sessions will be hosted Online for the period October/November 2024 period.

     

    These sessions are open to external students and can be registered for at least two (2) days before the start date.

    Collect more Certifications along your journey towards ACCA Membership!

    Gain a Diploma in Accounting and Business when you pass the first three exams of the ACCA Qualification Applied Knowledge modules (BT, MA and FA), and the Foundations in Professionalism (FIP) ethics module.

    An Advanced Diploma in Accounting and Business can also be achieved by successfully completing all exams in the  ACCA Applied Knowledge and ACCA Applied Skills exams (BT – FM) of the ACCA programme and the Ethics and Professional Skills module.

    Completion of the Advanced Diploma and successful completion of the Strategic Professional exams (SBL - Strategic Business Leader, SBR - Strategic Business Reporting and two option modules) will allow you to become an ACCA affiliate.

    As part of your journey to become a qualified ACCA member, you will be required to complete the Ethics and Professional Skills Module which supplements your technical knowledge of the programme by helping to develop ethical and professional behaviours. You must also demonstrate relevant skills and experience within a real work environment. This is what the PER (Practical Experience Requirement) is all about.

    ACCA members can seamlessly progress to one of our Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University MBA or MSc programmes, which we have been offering for over 24 years.

    ACCA members can gain a fast-track entry through free-of-charge credit transfer and exemption when they matriculate for the MSc in Financial Management or the MBA programme offered by Edinburgh Business School, Heriot-Watt University.

    Entitlement to credit transfer or exemption will be assessed on an individual basis. A maximum of four exemptions from the nine-module programme may be available.
